What is Biodynamics?
- Biodynamics is a way of farming first introduced by the Agriculturist and Philosopher, Rudolf Steiner in Germany (nowadays its Poland) in 1924.
- Through Steiner's understanding, we learn to understand and to honor our land and soil and its place in nature as its own Cosmos, and the power in the Cosmos.
- The Biodynamic Farmer doesn't use any chemicals such as Pesticides or Herbicides at all and it is the most natural way of farming and pasture treatment that there is.
- Biodynamics provides the astrological insights needed to understand and predict weather patterns and the appropriate timing for soil preparation, planting and harvesting depending on lunar and other astrological influences and cycles.
- Biodynamics is a first principles and hands on approach to farming and with a little practice we are able to produce all the individual supplements and preparations our land needs on-farm.
The main preparations we use in Biodynamic Farming:
|

| Cow Horn Manure:
When food is digested, substances synthesized by living plants are broken down into their components. Energy, forces and substances are released in the process and these are essential ingredients for building animal and human bodies.
Rudolf Steiner said "Forces released in this metabolism are held back by the horns and cloven hooves so that they may go into building up the body again!"
Due to that advice we fill up the horns or hooves with cow manure and bury them for one year in the soil. In that time the energy is transferred into the manure which is then ready to be used as a liquid fertilizer.
You'll be surprised how much fun it is to do the preparation and even though about the effect.

| Horn Silica:
When stirred in water for an hour and sprayed onto the plants, this preparation conveys light qualities that have been transformed by the summer process in the soil.
This light energy promotes plant metabolism. In addition to that, if you have got any snail problems they will be reduced.
The following Preparations are Compost preparations to enrich the Compost and/or Manure heap with herbs.
In the last couple of decades people like Maria Thun, Christian von Wistinghausen, Dr. Ehrenfried Pfeiffer and many more, have worked with these herbs as spray preparations also.

| Stinging Nettle
If you knew how important the nettles are, you would love to have them everywhere. It's nowadays well known that stinging nettles are healthy and they were traditionally used to treat Anemia and Rheumatism for example.
We use the herb Nettle in the Biodynamics either as a compost preparation or as a special tea which may be sprayed onto your fruit trees to counter fungal attacks.
The stinging nettle also generally promotes the process of assimilation in the tree and assists healing.

Valerian is used either a compost preparation or as a spray to any plants which can't cope with the cold or frost.
Sprayed as a tea in a specific concentration it protects the roots and the bark.

The Horsetail Preparation is in the field of Biodynamic Agriculture the strongest herb to control serious fungal attacks. We use Horsetail, if nothing else helps.

The Pfeiffer Starter (CPP)
In the early 30's Dr. Ehrenfried Pfeiffer ( Author of: Weeds and what they tell, etc) enriched the Horn manure with 56 bacterium which are found in healthy and balanced soils. With that Preparation we have a highly improved inoculation for our soils, as it helps to get life into our soils, live which is more than just important.
With simple and economical Biodynamic practices we are able to very quickly bring back life and vitality into our soils and thereby into our crops and pastures.
At Kelloshiel Park we will be giving regular workshops and demonstrations showing you how to manage your own biodynamic
We hope that you will find your way to Kellosheil Park - the Biodynamic Preparation and Training Farm.
